Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who often predicted the plans of Apple to release products, recently said that Apple is working on the second generation of AirPods Pro and that it will go into mass production in the fourth quarter of 2021; this would mean a release no earlier than 2022.
According to what reported today by Digitimes, the estimated time could be much shorter and Apple could launch the headsets of the third generation of the AirPods series in the first half of 2021, followed by the launch of a new generation of AirPods Pro in the second half of next year.
Also according to Digitimes sources, at least some of the next-generation AirPods Pro models will be assembled by Inventec Appliances in Vietnam.
The next version of AirPods is expected to include light sensors, which could be used for health monitoring features. Digitimes has suggested that new sensors could be included in “AirPods” in one or two years at most. Status monitoring features may allow you to monitor your heart rate, step count, and health conditions, as well as to detect head movements.
The third-generation AirPods should adopt a more compact system in the package (SiP), which will allow integrating the audio functions in a case more similar in design to the pro model.
