The fruits of the devil in One Piece have always been central to the world created by Eiichiro Oda. The more we know about it, the more we understand that there is much more to it than what we see and we come across the most disparate powers. You can then combine skills, which can help the user hit an intangible power due to use of Devil Fruits. Have you ever wondered which ones can be considered “the best” in terms of strength and utility? Let’s try to think about it.
A necessary premise is that the following ranking is very personal, and you may disagree with what you find. I preferred to exclude those fruits that are very useful only for the user’s ability or with Awakening, a skill we know little about but which certainly requires enormous training (therefore potentially not really accessible to anyone).
Gura Gura (Whitebeard)
This powerful fruit alone was able to bring the entire Navy headquarters to its knees. The user becomes able to produce vibrations and trigger violent earthquakes. It therefore holds the potential to reduce the world to rubble, even if this does not save itself from endangering the lives of its allies.
Soul Soul (Big Mom)
Grab the Harry Potter Horcruxes, make them a more accessible power and drag them into a devil fruit. Soul Soul allows its user to infuse into surrounding objects fragments of souls (their own or not), to create flowers, trees, clouds, swords – all sentient and independent. The potential of this fruit finds its maximum expression in abilities that make it possible to snatch away people’s vitality, reducing their life expectancy to the point of instantly killing them if they feel fear for what is in front of them.
Ope Ope (Trafalgar Law)
Although very far from the destructive power of most of those present in this ranking, the Ope Ope is rightfully one of the best fruits of the devil seen in One Piece. Anyone who eats it becomes able to create a Room – a room within which to act in complete freedom, and to break a person into pieces without killing them and remove any disease inside like a Lego. This excellent healing potential is balanced by lethal attacks based on medical tools.
The culmination of the power of this fruit is the so-called “Operation of Eternal Youth”, which gives eternal life to a person at the cost of the user’s life. A devil fruit that expresses its maximum potential when ingested by a skilled doctor.
The owner of this fruit becomes able to manipulate gravity at will. It can generate powerful lateral gravity waves, crush people to the ground, or even summon giant, potentially unstoppable meteorites. The user can also use it to take off, checking the gravity of any object that is able to carry it. A power worthy of one of the three admirals.
Undoubtedly, the Magma Magma fruit cannot be overlooked because it transforms the user’s body – in fact – into magma. Its destructive power is certainly noteworthy, while keeping in mind the typical weaknesses of the category of fruit to which it belongs. The red-hot magma that envelops the body of those who use it makes it untouchable in most circumstances, reducing possible hand-to-hand clashes to a minimum and providing excellent distance coverage.
Bang Bang (Gladius)
A particular fruit of the devil, which allows the user to transform his body or parts of it into a bomb, regenerating them immediately afterwards. Any surrounding inorganic object can also be transformed, including soil. The explosions caused by the Bang Bang proved to be very dangerous on several occasions, the largest arrested only with barriers created by the Barri Barri fruit.
The body of one who eats the Doku Doku fruit becomes capable of producing enormous quantities of lethal poison. In most cases, small amounts of the toxins produced thanks to this power can kill a person in a short time. At more advanced levels of use, the body can produce extremely powerful toxins, projecting them outside and thus creating terrifying monsters.
Yomi Yomi acts on souls. Those who eat the fruit initially only lose the ability to swim without benefits. At death, however, the fruit manifests its full power. The user can now immediately bring his soul back into his body, and when he comes back to life he is able to project it outside. He can also use them to influence the emotions of those around him, even going so far as to “disconnect” from the objects fragments of soul infused through the Soul Soul fruit.
One Piece Devil Fruits – Special mention: Art Art
The Art Art fruit allows its user to transform anything they touch into a work of art, including people. It has very high combat potential: as long as they are transformed into works of art, humans cannot use any type of weapon – and even physical attacks are hindered by the transformation. We have seen an entire crew brought to their knees by the power of a cubist painting. The question remains whether even a very skilled fighter can be subjected to the immense power of the Art Art fruit…
It’s hard to say for sure which are the strongest One Piece Devil Fruits – it would certainly be easier once the comic is over. The variables involved are not negligible.
Some of them have limits and potentials that are not known precisely. An important example is certainly Blackbeard’s Dark Dark, which is speculated to be able to somehow “steal” the powers of other fruits to transfer them to third parties. Precisely for this reason I preferred to keep him outside the ranking, waiting for convincing reasons that he should be involved.
